French Rosette Afghan
Inspired by the beauty of the French Provinces, our French rosette afghan blossoms with simple elegance and subtle charm. Delicate, pink roses accented with French blue come alive against the simplicity of the white background. Overall, the afghan is a collection of many motifs crocheted in various shapes and sizes.
This is the companion pattern for the video tutorial: How to Crochet the French Rosette Blanket!
Like a ribbon around a nosegay, a ring of French blue draw the blossoms together to create the focal point of our afghan, the French rosette motif. The motif is actually made of four smaller squares, three with roses and one without. Each rose is worked into the afghan, not sewn to the afghan. It is impossible for small children to accidentally detach the flowers.
While the French rosette motifs tend to grab all the attention, the subtle design of the larger motifs provides supporting visual interest and makes our French rosette afghan practical. The geometric patterns created by eyelets placed at the corners and sides of each section, draw the eye to the edges of each motif. Narrow French blue stripes frame each piece and accentuate their distinct shapes.
Two versions of the border are offered in the pattern. The wide version of the border adds yet another French blue accent while the narrow border allows the motifs to float in an all-white background. Either way the outer border unifies the motifs and the final row puts a smart, finished edge on the afghan.
Since the pieces are all worked separately, you can combine any of the 4 motifs into a personal mosaic!
