Flower Power Afghan pattern

Our flower power afghan is ready to bloom! Tune into the Twisted Yarns YouTube channel and crochet along with the new Flower Power afghan crochet lessons and follow along with these written instructions.

Learn how to crochet these big, beautiful blossoms! The five-petal flower boasts of a large, luscious bloom. Since its petals extend beyond the edges of its own pot, make sure to allow plenty of room for this motif when you transplant it to the garden. The second variety offers a bold splash of color but a more delicate six-petal flower. While politely confined to the center of the motif, plant them along the edges of the afghan or tuck in near the larger variety.

Then, space the blossoms with the four variations of the colorful background! Create these hybrids by changing the order of the pattern rows and varying the combinations and placement of the colors.  Simple variations, such as these, surprisingly keep the eye focused on the bigger blooms.

Finally, the vibrant colors meet on a field of spring green. Yet, the stripes of our wide, multicolored border fence our wildflower garden. These big beautiful blossoms and brilliant colors will boost anyone’s morale. To complete our afghan, delicate mini-scallops mimic the curves of the petals. They also provide visual balance to our whimsical flower patch.

While some plant only colors that match their decor, my free-spirited, wildflower garden allows the guiltless use of any and all the scrap yarn!

The pattern is simple but the variations and combinations will surprise you. Have fun making this Flower Power afghan!
