Twinkle Baby Blanket

Twinkle, twinkle little star…the Twinkle Baby Blanket is oh, so enchanting.  Like a wizard’s wand, your hook will summon oddments of the same color and magically transform them into tiny stars. This creates a dazzling illusion of twinkles. The tiny stars are the focal point at the center of these petite motifs. White rows shape and define the shape. And finally the pale yellow border unifies the twinkles into a stunning constellation.

This is the companion pattern for the video tutorial How to Crochet the Twinkle Motif. Watch and learn the how to crochet the eye of the twinkle, how to shape its rays and finally how to crochet the inner border. You’ll also learn tips and tricks to make this project really special.

I used short lengths of purple from my scrap basket and magically transformed them into twinkles. The eye of each twinkle requires less than 9 feet of yarn. This means you can use up scraps of yarn and will need about 4 oz of purples for a toddler-sized blanket measuring 34 x 42 inches when completed. You will also need 10 oz of white and 12 oz of yellow and an H hook (5mm hook).

This pattern covers all information needed to make the full afghan. It includes instruction for how to crochet the Twinkle Motif, the inner border, the outer border, and edging.

Watch How to Crochet Granny Squares Together to learn the technique to quickly join the squares as you crochet the border… but use the border from this pattern!

If you’ve been indoctrinated into the world of crochet by making traditional granny squares, this motif will build on those skills.
