Six Variations of Corded Edging

Six corded edging variations may sound overwhelming but when you start with the basics, you can easily add on your crochet skills quickly.

Over the years, basic corded edgings have had a number of names including crab stitch, pie crust, Italian edging and I’m sure many more! These all are a simple series of a reverse-single crochets and primarily used to create a roll on the edge that is just a little thicker than the main project yet quite narrow so that it adds a professional finish without distracting from the main stitch pattern. Well, the first two variations are the companion patterns for the video: How to Crochet Corded Edgings – Two Variations. These include the fundamentals for crocheting basic corded edging. Then, I offer my alternative corded edge that is perfect for moss stitch patterns and when working with yarns with little or no elasticity like cotton or nylon.

And then we launch into a whole other world of Corded Edgings! These four are so perfect for completing Moss Stitch projects that I have added another video How to Crochet Four Corded Edgings for the Moss Stitch to demonstrate these new techniques!

And lastly I’ve included the Basic Cording Pattern so that you have all  six variations in one pattern download.

If you like the six corded edging variations, then you may also like my other edgings such as Candy Cane Edging a two color easy edging perfect for the holidays!
