Moss Stitch Square Motif

The moss stitch square motif plays on the simple structure of the single crochet and chain. One of the first lacey patterns in crochet, these two simple stitches come together in this easy-to-crochet square, yet elegant pattern.

Expand the motif by adding rows to the outer edge and you’ll soon find yourself with an amply sized square afghan. Play with color and add stripes! You’ll find that the mitered corners will transform the square into an optical illusion!
