Mohair Intarsia Cowl
The Mohair Intarsia Cowl can be worn a multiple of ways. Plus it’s the perfect practice project to learn to do intarsia. And here’s why!
First, the zig-zag design means you don’t have to follow a complex multicolor pattern or chart. It’s easy to see on the needlebed. The pattern develops rapidly and frankly, requires no counting. Just keep moving over one stitch at a time until you want to change direction!
Second, you can practice on odds and end of yarn. The cowl requires less than 1.7 ounces of two coordinating colors of regular weight mohair yarn. I found it a great way to use up mohair leftover from other projects. Although a fuzzy yarn softens the color change, it also disguises little oopsies. Even your first effort will look great and feel wonderful!
Third, should you not have mohair you can substitute worsted weight yarn. It may not be as elegant but you will still have an attractive neckwarmer when done.
And fourth, it’s fun. There’s no need to swatch! Just knit!
You do need a bulky or mid-gauge flatbed machine with intarsia capability or an intarisia carriage. I made my samples on a Brother Bulky 230, a 9 mm machine, because I wanted the knit to be as loose as possible and intasia capability is built-in to the carriage. However, I could have done the same project on an LK150 with an intarsia carriage.
Add the Mohair Intarsia Cowl to your easy gift idea list!
