Knit Elf Mitten Ornament

Decorate your Christmas tree with this delightfully knit elf mitten ornament. Whether you stripe them or keep them in bright solid colors, the elves will certainly appreciate these warm offerings.

In just an evening, use just a very small amount of fingering, baby or sport weight yarn to knit a pair.  You can even use worsted weight in a pinch. Just increase the needle size to accommodate the yarn… just keep it tight! A size six needle would work just fine! Depending on the yarn, they measure from 1.5 to 2 inches!

As the story goes, Mrs. Claus could not keep up with knitting mittens to keep the elves hands warm! Oh, no!  So she put out the call! Knitters to the rescue! She asked them to knit at least one pair of elf mittens and put them on the Christmas tree. Each year, in the wee hours of the night, on Christmas Eve, the mittens mysteriously disappear.

What really happens is that each year she sends a special elf to ride with Santa on Christmas Eve. His job is to collect all the mittens and bring them back to the North Pole! The elves stay warm year round while they make all the Christmas presents!

So, why not help the elves out and share this Christmas tradition? A knit elf mitten ornament makes a wonderful package decoration and a thoughtful mini-gift, too!  And… there’s plenty of time to knit a few pairs!

P.S. If you crochet, no worries!  Mrs. Claus also provided a crochet elf mitten ornament pattern!
