Fan and Feather Scarf pattern

Just as the brilliant reds of the changing leaves catch our attention, this burgundy scarf makes a striking accent against the deep neutral tones of the Autumn wardrobe. Warm and airy, textured and lacy, fluid yet ordered, the classic fan and feather stitch pattern is a true dichotomy yet its visual interest continues to delight both the beginner and experienced knitter.

An equal number of increases and decreases along one row give the pattern its shape and lovely scalloped edge. For our variation, four is the magic number: four rows of pattern, groupings of four increases and four decreases. While it may seem complex, the pattern is very easy to follow. If the pattern is new to you, place markers as indicated. They will help you count the stitches, understand the repeats, and see the pattern emerge as the rows are worked.

By using worsted weight yarn with large needles, our scarf can be made very quickly. While acrylic yarn will withstand the wear and tear of everyday use, you may want to pamper yourself with luxurious wool or angora blends. Either way the scarf makes a stunning accessory.
