Brick Blanket

The strong straight lines of the mortar, rugged look of the weathered bricks and multiple hues of brown provided the inspiration for our crocheted brick blanket pattern. It just is so masculine, it will become a perfect favorite in the MAN CAVE!

The pattern features a giant size (70 x 48 inches) and a personal long version (68 x 44 inches) but you can easily change the size for your purposes by just adding or subtracting bricks!

This is the companion pattern for How to Crochet the Brick Blanket video series to learn all the little secrets! In part 1 learn how to crochet this interesting brick stitch pattern. Then, “cement” the bricks and half-bricks together with the mortar border in part 2! Lastly, In part 3 professionally finish the blanket by adding the narrow border that literally frames the entire blanket.

The simple combination of double and single crochets give each brick its unusual visual and tactile texture. Burnt orange and rich terra-cotta brick complement the predominant natural brown tones throughout the brick afghan. Since each brick requires less than an ounce of worsted weight yarn. To our delight, a multitude of partial skeins yielded all the bricks we needed to make the crocheted brick afghan pattern.

Although one would think that the contrast in brick colors would be striking, it is the contrast between mortar and brick that is truly the visual focus of the afghan. The mortar unifies the bricks, creates the patterning of the brickwork and tames a diverse mix of color all at the same time.

So… hit the bricks and surprize your man with his own brick blanket!
