Be scrap happy!
If you are like me, for a scrap happy afghan, I may spend hours arranging the squares. Functionally, this exercise distributes the colors evenly throughout the afghan and avoids the dreaded color pools. Psychologically, it simply delights the soul. You get to inspect and evaluate each one of the squares. Then celebrate each little accomplishment! When delight transforms into satisfaction, you know you have the perfect layout and this feeling creates an inner energy that catapults you to the next step.
Avoid rework!
Time to pack up the pieces! This may sound a little boring but it is critical.
I’ve lived in small houses all my life and learned to dual purpose every space! If you did the layout on the floor, the kids and the dog will inevitably and haphazardly rearrange it. If you arranged it on the kitchen or dining room table, you may want to eat sometime before the afghan is crocheted together. Likewise, if you laid it out on the bed, you will eventually want to sleep!
After investing my time in the perfect layout, I want it preserved so I do not have to do it again. After all, I already declared it to be the perfect layout! Don’t hesitate, pack it up NOW!!!
Using my system described in the video, the pieces stay in order and prepare you for the assembly of the afghan.
Take small bites!
How did the little dog eat the elephant? One bite at a time. Packing-up breaks a larger, possibly overwhelming task into smaller do-able pieces.
With the granny squares organized and packed up in easily manageable sections, you are ready to go! Whether you are going only as far as your easy chair or are traveling via plane, train or automobile, you now are prepared to seize every bit of spare time! And…you will make progress!
