“Doodles” appeared nearly 50 years ago. Crocheted afghans and garments were created by adding rows and rounds of textured stitches and color. While haphazard color changes often defined smaller doodles embedded in the larger piece, the overall effect of doodling is dramatic. Although there is some variation, this art form limited itself to using one or two types of yarn per project.
Personally, I love to crochet doodle. It frees the mind and challenges the imagination. It provides a medium to experiment with new stitches and color combinations. It is relaxing. Working on my doodle helps me transition from one project to the next. It’s “Playtime”. It may just be a few rows, a few colors added but soon, I’m ready to move on to something else.
Over a bit of time though, “Mr. Doodle” emerged from a frenzy of color and textures. He was not planned… he sort of just happened and he had ideas of his own. At a certain point, he took control of my hook and now he is finished. He makes me scrap happy!
Time to pull out some yarn and explore… create… play… and let me know what figment of your imagination has taken flight.
