Buttered Popcorn Movie Blanket

My knitting friends urged me to redesign the Popcorn Movie Blanket for machine knitting. So…here it is!  This pattern includes adult-size (45 X60 inches) and child-size (36 x42 inches) blankets so everyone can stay cozy with their own. It makes a wonderful gift and offers practice with essential machine-knitting techniques that can also be used in other projects. I used a Brother KH230 to make both sizes, but any mid-gauge or bulky flatbed knitting machine will work.

This is also the companion pattern for the video tutorials series how to Machine Knit the Buttered Popcorn Movie Blanket. There are 4 parts in all.

Part 1  introduces the project and shows how easily the blanket tucks into its built-in pocket for storage or display.

Part 2 covers knitting and assembling the panels with a latch-tool join, a simple method that creates a decorative, textured seam in stockinette. It works especially well with contrasting colors, like the popcorn bucket’s red and white.

Part 3 shows how to finish the side edge with a turned hem and where to attach the built-in pocket, completing the main blanket section.

Finally, Part 4 shows how to add the fluffy Buttered Popcorn Edging to the cast-on and bound-off edges. This edging is done completely on the machine. Each kernal appears rounder and fuller so the edging has a real “pop” and it folds slightly over itself to fill your bucket perfectly!

Machine-knit with readily available, easy-care acrylic yarn, makes it practical to use. Surely it will become movie night must-have! It makes the perfect gift for teachers, students, men, women, children and those who have everything because everybody loves a good movie! And everybody will love their own Buttered Popcorn Movie Blanket!
