Roadkill Blanket
Men and boys just love the road and the Roadkill Blanket begins with the road. Starting on one side with a patch of green grass, we quickly traverse to a band of gravel, edge stripes and pavement. Easy double crochets stripes get you all the way to the middle of the road, where the dashed yellow lines require a secret technique for changing colors mid-row. Then the color scheme reverses and double crochet stipes take us directly to the other side!
Although the blanket is warm, cozy and inviting, it takes on a whole new story when one little character enters the scene at a not so appropriate time. Meet Squish. He is the star of the story and of the blanket! Alas, although I have tried to convince all my crochet buddies that “Squish” is not really dead, afterall he is talking, they insist on calling this the Roadkill Blanket.
The real challenge in this pattern is how to crochet the animal. So, take your time and enjoy this humorous adventure. Develop this little character’s personality first by working the head and facial expressions. Once these are in place, turn your focus to the core of the humor and crochet his tire-tracked mid-section. Next, allow his slightly squished body to bulge out each end. And lastly, confirm the fact that this incident was only a setback by completing his OUCH declaration. Of course, you could include a different message or grawlix as desired!
While the blanket is worked all in one piece, Squish is assembled when he is sewn to the blanket. Easy care acrylic worsted weight (#4) yarn, makes this blanket easy to love, too. Simply throw it in the washer and dryer when it needs a refresh!
The pattern includes several sizes from reasonable to oversized to fit all of the men and boys in your life! Even the girls may relate to poor little Squish!
